These are step-by-step instructions for finding articles in the Academic Search Complete database. If you follow these steps and have any questions, contact a librarian (the Tri-C Library home page has multiple options for contacting a librarian).

  1. Click this link for Academic Search Complete.
  2. If you're off-campus, on the Library Remote Authentication Logon page, type your S-number in the Username field and your Tri-C password in the Your Password field, then click Submit.
NOTE: Tri-C faculty and staff should type user ID in the Username field.
  3. On the Academic Search Complete page, type words that describe your topic (keywords) in the boxes at the top of the page. (Do not use complete sentences or questions.)
  4. Click Search. Articles listed contain your keywords--the most recent are at the top of the list.

To limit your results:

  1. On the left side of the page, under Refine Results, under Limit To, select Full Text. This limits results to full-text articles in this database, as well as the ones to which this database can provide a link.
  2. You may also limit your results by:
    * Source type, so you can choose a specific type of source, like magazine or newspaper articles.
Subject: An article's subject is what the article is about. You may find a subject in the list that matches your topic. Click "Show More" to view all the subjects. Click the checkbox to the left of a subject to view the articles that are about a subject.
Geography: Limit results by a city, country, continent. Examples: New York, United States, Asia
NOTE: Limiters vary depending on articles in the list. If you limit results and find no relevant articles, you can cancel the limits: Under Refine ResultsCurrent Search, click the x across from any limiter you selected.

Reviewing results:

  1. Review the titles of the articles in the list.
  2. Click the title of any article to view more information about the article or to get to the full text.
  3. When the article's Detailed Record opens, carefully review the article information, especially the abstract (summary), if available.
  4. To view the article text:
    * For HTML Full Text, just scroll down on the Detailed Record page to view the article.
    * For PDF Full Text, click the PDF Full Text icon to open the PDF on the page.
    * If you see Full-Text Finder, click the link. On the Full Text Finder Results page, you should see a link to a database. Click the link to get to a page that has a link to a PDF of the article.

Printing an article:

  • While viewing a PDF article, move your mouse over the text of the article, right-click, and choose Print. (This applies to all PDF articles, no matter how you access them.)
  • While viewing an HTML article, click the printer icon on the right side of the page under Tools.

Citing an article: On the Academic Search Complete page, click the Cite button on the right side of the page under Tools.

Emailing an article: On the Academic Search Complete page, click the Email button on the right side of the page under Tools.
